If y’all are unfamiliar with Ubiquitous and Godemis aka CES CRU, it’s time to get acquainted. After signing to Strange Music at the beginning of the year, the KC based duo were featured on several Strange projects, and even put out 2 solo mixtapes: Godemis’ “The Deevil” and Ubi’s “Matter Don’t Money”, both of which are dope as fuck and can be copped over at Datpiff. 13 marks their official Strange Music debut, and in this dude’s opinion it couldn’t have been a more welcoming one. The EP’s opener “Tempus Fugit” (latin for “time flies) perfectly encapsulates the vibe that CES CRU has been laying down and perfecting for years while at the same time showcasing their recent artistic growth and lyrical prowess. Tracks like “Peter Parker”, “One Bomb State” , and “Klick Clack Bang” find the best Cru working with their friend/frequent collaborator/dope as fuck producer Info Gates, whose quirky and heavy-hitting soundscapes provide the perfect accompaniment for Ubi and Godi’s similarly quirky and heavy-hitting vocals.
The EP’s closer “It’s Over” is as hard of a banger as anything we’ve heard out of the Snake & Bat camp recently, and features label mates Krizz Kaliko and Tech N9ne (both of whom KILL IT). Throughout the EP, the production is fist-bitingly dope (with credits going to Strange in-house producer Seven, Info Gates, Smart Alec, and Koko of Basement Beats), and the lyrics are nothing short of what long time CES CRU fans have come to expect. For the newly acquainted, this serves as a perfect “come on in, we’re dope as shit” project, and as yet another brain-melting, face-eating, soul-thumping release added to the Strange Music catalogue. 2012 truly is the year of the Snake & Bat.
