Keep It Cool Kid. People Usually Show Hate. (K.I.C.K. P.U.S.H.)

One after another One Be Lo keeps droppin mad dope shit. First Laborhood vol. 3, then an acapella and full instrumental version of L.A.B.O.R, and now this, K.I.C.K. P.U.S.H. A brand new LP to grace our ears, produced by the Autocons with appearances by Kodac and Ro Spit. I don’t have a lot of time today so I will just let Be Lo himself explain the project, after the description you can listen to and download this dope ass new LP.

Keep it cool kid. People usually show hate.

That was my mentality when I first started making music in high school, growing up in Pontiac Michigan. 20 years later, that motto holds a different position in the career of One Be Lo.

K.I.C.K. P.U.S.H. was birthed in the wee hours of the night, while most people were resting and preparing for the next workday. After spending long days recording and mixing the LABOR album, it felt like going to Widetrax studio afterwards was more like taking a break from the actual job. The LABOR project is very conceptual. There are many layers in that project, and I expect people to take a while to get all of it. This K.I.C.K. P.U.S.H. is a fun record. Recording it was fun because there was no pressure to do it, but we still maintain the same work ethic. At one point, Pontiac was known for manufacturing cars, that moved people all over the world. Now that the auto industry is a ghost in our town, we carry on the tradition of manufacturing music that will move people all over the globe, whether you have a car or not.

K.I.C.K. (Keep It Cool Kid) P.U.S.H. (People Usually Show Hate) represents the raw energy that inspired me to make music over 20 years ago. We were always self motivated because most people around us didn’t understand what we were doing, or had the crab in the bucket mentality. In some instances we had to KICK down doors and PUSH our way in. For everybody that understands, sounds of Nahshid originate good rhymes and music. Something to interest Lo listeners beyond original recorded networkings. Real emcee’s bring intelligent rhymes to HipHop. Language arts based on Reality. Keep it cool kid. People usually show hate. That’s the motto.

Murs: Gods Gone

If you frequent this site you may remember a post about Murs upcoming venture Yumiko: Curse of the Merch Girl, a comic/album alliance with Josh Blaylock and Jose Garcia. “Gods Gone” is the first video released for the project. If you are like me you have already donated to help fund this undertaking, but if you haven’t you can do so at their kickstarter page HERE, good news is that the project has received enough support to get released, though donating not only further advances it you also get some really cool stuff. From the looks of the art featured in the video this comic book is going to be fucking incredible and the soundtrack that’s going to accompany it will be a perfect match, I can’t wait. If you liked the video you can download it HERE.

KEVIN L. ALEXANDER “GOOD DAY”

So back on some weekend in January this cat Kevin L. Alexander, a DMV-based mixing engineer and entrepreneur, had this genius of an idea which he called “The 72 Hour Project”. He brought together 13 artists, 14 producers and musicians, and 1 sound engineer(himself) to create 10 songs in a 72 hour span. Quite the venture right? Imagine over 28 artists clashing, crafting, and coalescing to create an original 10 track project in only 3 days. “Good Day” is the first song off of this adventure and on March 15 we will  get the entire experience, not only were the tracks recorded but he recorded the entire event on video, so we will be able to witness those unique minds working in that madness. Interested in the concept? Give “Good Day” a listen, maybe a download, and get ready for more on March 15.

Comic Books and… MURS!

If you are reading posts on this site then you definitely love hip hop, but, if you are like me then you also love comics, and apparently so does Murs. His newest project Yumiko, Curse of the Merch Girl is a combination of both, it’s a 100+ page, full color, fully illustrated graphic novel (broken into 10 chapters) drawn by Jose Garcia and Written by Josh Blaylock coupled with a 10 song album with tracks ranging from narratives to the story to others that just go along with the atmosphere of it, along with this Murs is also creating a completely animated music video to go along with the story. You can read everything about the project HERE at Murs kickstarter page. This is also were you can help make this project happen by pledging at least 1 dollar to this masterpiece in the making. Its not like you don’t get anything for pledging, different amounts will get you different items, I am pledging $50 dollars which will get me a sweet t-shirt, a physical copy of the book and album, signed by Murs, also digital copies of both, a .mov file for the animated music video 2 weeks before it premiers, and also a shout-out at the end of book thanking you for your help. There is a little less than a month left for Murs to reach his goal and get this project into our hands, I have complete confidence that we will be able to reach that goal with the help of all you hip hop heads out there, so do yourself a favor and take this jump over to the kickstarter page and help get this masterpiece into our hands by making a pledge. This is one of the coolest hip hop projects I have ever read about and cant wait to get my hands on it, so you most definitely don’t want to miss out.

Grynch – So Far (Feat. Brother Ali & Shaprece)

Here is a cat I have been listening to for a while now, Grynch, and he teams up with Rhymesayers elite Brother Ali and fellow Seattle native Shaprece along with peerless producer Jake One (who I seem to be seeing a lot of here recently) bringing together a masterful combination of fantastic percussion and gnarley guitar riffs under some beautiful vocals and talented rhyming. This track, “So Far”, plus others will be present on his upcoming release so get ready for more on March 2nd when Grynch drops his Perspective Lp.

Happy Valentines Day from Brother Ali

What could be better on Valentines Day than hangin out with the one you love, a free EP from Brother Ali that goes by the name of The Bite Marked Heart. Featuring artists like Phonte, Stokley Williams, Nikki Jean, and Aby Wolf, and with beats from Jake One and Ant,  Ali gives us a fantastic treat to entertain us on this day of love. I have literally had it on repeat since I downloaded it. Not only is it a great Ep, it also gives us something to listen to as we anticipate his 6th studio release  Mourning in America and Dreaming in Color, which is due out around March 5th. So show our Brother some love and download The Bite Marked Heart.

Damu the Fudgemunk – Streamline f. Raw Poetic

Check out this new Damu the Fudgemunk track I came across, with Raw Poetic rockin the mic its a stunning display of his lyrical prowess and Damu’s talents as a true beat architect. This song will appear on their sequel to Kilawatt 1, Kilawatt 1.5, slated for release February 28. If the rest of the album is anything like this 7 minute taste of genuine hip hop purity then it will be one of the best albums released so far this year. Check out “Streamline” below and if you wanna get ready for the upcoming release get your hands on Kilawatt 1, you will be bangin it until 1.5 releases, I promise.

Famsquad ft. Sir Michael Rocks & Cashflow Ellis – Attitude

I was doin my usual thing on the internet, which is findin new music, and I came across this little gem of a video. I have never heard of Famsquad before but the name, Sir Michael Rocks caught my eye, you know, the cat from The Cool Kids, and I had to check it out. I am so glad I did, the video ended up bein mad dope, everybody kills it. This is actually the first single off of their upcoming album Lust of Money, though I cant figure out when the album actually releases so I am gonna have to keep my eye on these guys. Give it a listen, “Attitude” by the Famsquad.
